EU chief Donald Tusk shares mocking hammock snap as he blasts BoJo’s Brexit deal

EU chief Donald Tusk relaxed on a hammock with his dog and a book as he threw out Boris Johnson’s opening bid to break the Brexit deal deadlock.

Mr Tusk shared the mocking snap on Instagram as he and BoJo exchanged bitter blows.

The mocking snaps comes after Boris Johnson wrote to Mr Tusk demanding the Irish backstop be scrapped[/caption]

In a withering response to the PM’s letter to him on Monday night, the European Council president dismissed his demand to scrap the Irish backstop yesterday.

He even accused Mr Johnson of being dishonest, tweeting: “The backstop is an insurance to avoid a hard border on the island of Ireland unless and until an alternative is found.

“Those against the backstop and not proposing realistic alternatives in fact support re-establishing a border. Even if they do not admit it.”

No10 hit back to suggest it was Brussels that was now the block on any agreement, saying: “We are ready to negotiate, in good faith.”

German leader Angela Merkel also rebuffed the PM’s plea ahead of their first meeting in Berlin today but more diplomatically.

‘PRACTICAL SOLUTIONS’

She said: “Of course we will think about practical solutions. If you want to find these solutions in the future, you can also find them in the short term.

The EU is ready for that. But for that we don’t need to reopen the exit agreement.”

The EU Commission also took a swipe at Boris by saying it was not “the time to enter into blame games” after his claim the EU would be responsible for No Deal.

But the PM remained defiant last night and insisted: “We can’t have this backstop.”

‘WE WILL GET THERE’

He also dismissed Mr Tusk’s barbs and insisted EU leaders will soon come round to his way of thinking, despite just 71 days to go until the October 31 deadline.

Boris added: “I saw what Donald Tusk had to say and it wasn’t redolent of a sense of optimism. But I think actually we will get there.”

The PM warned he will have to see off a Commons bid next month to delay exit day before the EU gives way.

He added: “As long as they think that there is a possibility that Parliament will block Brexit, they are unlikely to be minded to make the concessions that we need.”

But an EU diplomat said last night: “Johnson says he doesn’t want a hard border but nowhere even remotely offers a glimpse of how he wishes to solve this problem.”

  1. A good many EU citizens will look at that photo and think why can this creep relax on a £1000 hammock without a care in the world and they are struggling to make ends meet
