Labour’s Tom Watson says party will back a second referendum if Theresa May refuses cross-party Brexit negotiation

LABOUR will back a second referendum if the PM refuses to negotiate a cross-party Brexit deal, warns deputy leader Tom Watson.

His comments come just days after Jeremy Corbyn all-but ruled out Labour backing for a second referendum.

The Labour leader appeared to kill-off a second referendum after writing a letter to the Prime Minister last week setting out his conditions for accepting a Brexit deal.

But speaking on the Andrew Marr Show yesterday Mr Watson appeared to contradict his leader.

He said he hoped the PM would engage in cross-party talks about softening her Brexit deal.

But he added: “But of course if she doesn’t go that way, if she chooses to go with the hard right people who want to crash out, then we’ve still got the people’s vote option.”

Meanwhile a bombshell book into Mr Corbyn’s past claims the Labour leader was secretly “delighted” about the Brexit result in 2016.
